Information Design

In this course I learned a lot about how information is organized on the web and how users interact with it to complete various tasks. For the main project of this course, we were given a website and were tasked with finding better ways of organizing the information on those websites based on tests. Our group was given the UXPA International Website. The first of our tasks was to create a content inventory of the entire website which included sites, articles, images, and videos. My role during this process was to create a spreadsheet that contained all of the relevant information. For the second part of the project, we conducted an open card sort to figure out which labels the users would sort the information on the website under. For the third part of the project, we conducted a tree test where participants would have to complete tasks by trying to navigate themselves around the UXPA International Website using the labels that exist on the website. My role during these two tests was to analyze the information we gained from the tests and come to conclusions about why test participants were doing the things they did. Through the two tests we conducted, we found that participants tended to be confused by the labels given. They tended to get lost and preferred the information be sorted under different labels. Therefore, in our final strategy report, our team suggested that the way information was sorted on the UXPA International website should be reevaluated so that particular items of information are easier to find.
